The aim of this course is to provide the knowledge to implement a traffic management plan for works on roads ensuring traffic flow is maintained and risk to the safety of the public and workers is minimised.
This course meets the requirements of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Implement Traffic Management course, and the Workplace Health & Safety Queensland Traffic Management for Construction or Maintenance Work Code of Practice 2008 in implementing a traffic management plan. Whilst attending this course, you will be completing training in the nationally accredited course RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plan.
There are no specific requirements for entry into the theory component of this course. Prior to completing the practical component of this course, students must possess a General Safety Construction Induction Card (White Card) and undertake a site specific induction prior to entry of a site. Persons who will be working on construction sites where a traffic management plan must be implemented. These persons may include Supervisors, leading hands, pipe layers and other general civil construction workers. Also persons required to complete an approved Implement Traffic Management course as outlined by TMR.
This course provides the participants with the skills and competencies to: Determine work requirements for site Plan and prepare for traffic management Set out a traffic guidance scheme (in accordance with the MUTCD Part 3 Work on Roads) Monitor a traffic guidance scheme Close down a traffic guidance scheme Clean up How will I be assessed? Participant's competencies will be assessed through completion of both a theory and practical assessment. The theory examination will occur on the day of the theory course. This theory examination consists of the approved TMR assessment as required for the RIIWHS302E course. The practical assessment will require the student to complete a minimum of three (3) implementations of traffic guidance schemes on live job sites to complete the RIIWHS302E course.
You will need to lodge your application and fee at a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service centre that conducts industry licensing business.
Licence Applications are lodged at most Queensland Transport Customer Service Centres. The approximate processing time for licence applications is 3 – 4 weeks due to the time required for criminal history checks, although this time may vary in some cases. Please see the Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD's website for licencing fees and contact them on13 23 80 if you hold a foreign drivers licence or any concerns regarding your eligibility to obtain your traffic control licence.
Applicants are not permitted to work as a Traffic Controller until they receive their Licence.
Traffic Controllers are required to undertake a refresher course every three years in order to maintain their accreditation.
